The Complete Idiot's Guide to Urban Homesteading

Who doesn't love fresh food?
Its even better when kit comes from your hard work in your back yard.

The feeling of doing things yourself doesn't just give a sense of satisfaction; it brings you back to the early days when all humans did things for themselves. It brings you closer to the earth.

It can all seem a bit impossible when living in an urban environment.

I've really appreciated reading  The Complete Idiot's Guide to Urban Homesteading.  Its another book that teaches you how to survive yourself. This book goes much futher however then teaching you how to grow vegetables in your back yard (although it does have a complete section on that so you won't miss out)

You'll learn how to keep goats and other livestock, how to apply for permits to keep your animals in the city. as well as how to keep BEES! I'm considering keeping bees this year because nobody in my family is allergic, bees need to be repopulated and how wonderful to have my own little pollinators back there making honey, and beeswax!

You'll also learn about community gardens and how to start seedlings in the city.
You'll learn what size containers are needed for what plants (my favorite section)

Preserve your bounty with scaled down recipes for canning, fermenting, drying and root 'cellaring'

Make your own soap and cleaners from natural ingredients and rid your home of all the nasty chemicals that are contained in conventional cleaners. The book has 7 different recipes for cleaners! Even parts on how to unclog a drain and eliminating carpet odors (eww stinky dogs)

The book even has sections on how to conserve energy, recycle and compost your products.

This book is so important if you live in a city or even just in a house, because it will tell you what you need to know and how to find out more! Its a great introduction to the urban homesteading lifestyle!

I received a free copy of  The Complete Idiot's Guide  to Urban Homesteading" for this review. All opinions are 100% mine, I did not receive any cash payment for this review.
